Dear friends
& fans,
I am happy to write you to say "hello" and to
let you know what I will be doing during first months of 2007. I would
also like to tell you some very good news and to let you know about some of
the projects that I am working on right now.
In this newsletter you will find the following
topics:
The
Barcelona Festival of Song 2007
First of all I would like to talk about the
upcoming
Barcelona Festival of Song.
I had been busy preparing this 3rd festival that promises to be very
exciting. The festival 2007 will be from July the 4th to the 13th and
we will have wonderful artists teaching & performing.
As all of you know the festival commissions
every year a renown Ibero American composer to write a new cycle of songs
that is debuted during the festival. In 2007, Cuban composer Walfrido
Domínguez, wrote a beautiful cycle of three songs for
voice & guitar. One of the highlights of this year is the
collaboration of Dinsic publications, a Spanish publisher who will be
publishing every year the songs commissioned by the festival. So, we will be
producing a new book every year with the new songs! that means singers
will have new repertory available!
From this year on we have the collaboration of
important Catalan institutions like the Biblioteca Nacional de Catalunya,
the Arxiu Joan Maragall, the Fundació Orfeó Gracienc & the SGAE (Sociedad
General de Autores de España).
Among the faculty we have some of the finest
teachers & performers of the Ibero American vocal & guitar repertory;
guitarists Alex Garrobé, Rafael Cañizares, Edwin Guevera, singers Stela
Brandao & Isabel Aragón, pianist Pau Casan & many other people will be
joining us this year.
We also have wonderful possibilities for 2008
festival where we will have the collaboration of the Festival de Verona
(Italy) and the Conservatory of Viana do Castelo (Portugal). More
about this subject will be explain in the Fall 2007 newsletter.
As you can see all the Festival news are
wonderful, which encourage us to keep up the good & hard work. We invite
you to spread the word about the festival and to come for the concerts and
classes. Of course , if you are a singer we hope to see you here in
Barcelona in one of our next editions.

Reviews & Press
During the last months my book and CDs have
received wonderful reviews in some of the most importat academic journals
dedicated to voice and Latin American Music.
Book review: A wonderful review of my
book: The Latin American Art Song: A Critical Anthology and
Interpretative Guide for Singers was published in the Journal of
Singing, the journal of the National Association of Teachers of Singing"
The review is three pages long and is very
positive and encouraging. One quote says: "Colombian soprano and
musicologist Patricia Caicedo has done both her own region and the rest of
the world a great favor in researching, compiling, writing commentary for,
and editing forty-eight songs by twenty-one composers representing ten
countries.”. The review was written by Judith Carman. You can read the
whole review by clicking in the following link:
Journal of Singing review. It was
published in issue of November-December 2006.
CD review: Another very important review,
this time of my last CD: A mi ciudad nativa, was published in the Latin
American Music Review, the most important scholarly journal dedicated to
Latin American Music and published by the University of Texas Press.
This review was written by Dr. Jonathan Kulp and appeared in the last issue
of the Journal.
"She is something of an ambassador for
Latin-American songs, regularly presenting this repertoire in recitals and
concert-lectures around the world, and she has edited an anthology of
Latin-American art songs that includes the scores for a number of the songs
on this recording....This new recording represents the broadening of her
knowledge of the repertoire through research and through the cultivation of
relationships with living twentieth-century composers or with their
descendents. Reportedly she has amassed a collection of scores for some
2,500 songs from eighteen countries, a number that amazes even those of us
who have studied Latin-American art songs for some time." You can read
the complete review by clicking in the link Latin American Music Review
Radio Interview: You can also hear a
radio interview that was recorded last February at the sudio of WUSF in
Tampa. This interview was conducted by Gig Brown. The program
was broadcasted through the NPR network. If you like to hear the interview
please click here: radio interview
Magazine Article: In the next issue of
June - July, it will appear an article about me in the Ciutat Nova Magazine,
written by Carles Farreras. This article will be availble online by
going to www.ciutatnova.com

like to share with you that my profile will be include in the 2008 Who's Who
