Patricia Caicedo, one of the leading interpreters of the Latin American and Spanish Art Song repertoire, will perform in Barcelona on May 26. The concert will take place at the astonishing Biblioteca de Catalunya in Barcelona!
Together with pianist Irene Aisemberg, they will be presenting a recital to celebrate the life and work of soprano Conxita Badía, a Catalan soprano who lived between 1897 and 1975. Caicedo and Aisemberg will be performing songs that were written for or performed by Badía as well as songs that were part of her personal collection.
The concert seeks to invite the audience on a journey trough Conxita´s time, starting the journey in Barcelona in the 20´s with songs written by Conxita´s teacher, Enric Granados, it continues with songs written in the 30´s by Frederic Mompou.
With the beginning of the Spanish Civil war, Badía moved to Brazil and finally to Argentina, where local composers wrote songs for her to debut. You will hear some of those songs before Conxita´s return to Catalunya. We will end the journey back in Catalunya hearing songs by Eduard Toldra.
Caicedo is the founder and director of the Barcelona Festival of Song®, held during the Summer and now entering its 7th edition. She has performed throughout Europe, US and Latin America and has presented lectures and workshops at numerous US universities.
Her acclaimed albums include: De mi corazón latino – Latin Songs of All time (Mundo Arts, 2010), A mi ciudad Nativa – To My Native City (Mundo Arts, 2005), Lied: Art songs of Latin America (Albert Moraleda, 2001) and La Felicidad (1997).

Description
The Library was founded in 1907 as the library of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans. It was opened to the public in 1914, in the time of the Mancomunitat de Catalunya, and was housed in the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya.
In 1914 the Mancomunitat de Catalunya converted the library of the IEC into a public cultural service. In its early days, the library was situated in an area of the Palau de la Generalitat in Barcelona. In 1929, the Library was acquired by the city government of Barcelona. In 1931, the 15th century buildings formerly occupied by the Hospital de Santa Creu were declared a part of Spain's historical patrimony; and the municipality of Barcelona approved the cession of large portion of the site to the Biblioteca de Catalunya.
